I found a good activity to practice making change. It is on the National Council of Mathematic Teacher's website Illuminations.
Use the link below to access the site. Then select the game "change from value" to the left of the green box.
We have been making change by counting up from the cost of an item to the amount paid. So if you owe 56 cents and you pay $1.00. Count up from 56 cents to $1.00 to find your change.

Children can use this activity to physically count up. They select the blue "change" button to make the coins blue and then move them up to the green work area as they count up. When they get to $1.00, they may count how many blue coins they have placed on the green space. Finally, they enter this amount in the box at the top of the page and click on the check mark to see if they are correct.
