Establish Routines and Expectations
Thank you for your support with homework! Your support increases their chance at success with homework. I hope to prepare the students well for the intermediate grades and build their independence. Although they are but 7 years old, they can learn to be responsible for getting their work done and back to school daily. Of course, they do need our support and involvement to get this done. Just like in school, follow a gradual release model to get them to gain independence.
Every Night...
students have 3 things to do:
1. Practice the Spelling pattern
2. Practice math (a homework page AND math facts or IXL)
3. Read for 20 minutes!
Missing homework is made up during recess and missing classwork is made up during Fun Friday.
Second Grader’s are expected to be responsible for their homework. However, they need our support to be successful. Thank you for everything you do to support learning!

ReadingResearch shows that the amount of reading students do significantly influences their level of reading performance. 2nd graders are expected to read at home for 20 minutes each night. It is important for readers of all levels to do repeated readings of their Baggie Books. It strengthens their comprehension and builds their fluency.

MathMath Homelinks offer extra practice of the things we learn in class. The strategies and procedures taught are often different from the ways we learned in school. In order to support your child best and reinforce what was taught in school, read the "Family Note" at the top of their Homelink. It explains what they learned and often provides examples to illustrate new procedures. For extra support keep the Unit Family Letter sent home at the start of a new unit handy for easy reference. You will also find tutorials for some of the math strategies taught on the video demos page.
