This is an easy game to replicate at home to give your child practice counting pennies and reading dot patterns on dice. You must roll an exact number to take the remaining coins in the "bank." Player with the most pennies wins! Then it's time to play again.
I asked the children to talk with someone at home about their Hopes & Dreams in 1st Grade. We made a list of ideas in school today. Tomorrow they will write about their hopes & dreams or "wishes" for 1st Grade.
Dress appropriately for a cool Field Day tomorrow!
We will meet at 8:30 on the black top behind the school to go over rules and expectations. Next our class will go to Station 3. Each station is 6 1/2 minutes long. We will rotate in order from Station 3-18 and then to 1 and 2. Behavior in the morning activities determines participation in the afternoon Water Filed Day. This will be tracked using each student's bib. 1 Sad Face = NO Water Field Day Students are encouraged to bring a change of clothes, towel, and flip flops to wear after the Water Field Day. I hope to see many of you there cheering us on and keeping our mind of the chilly weather! Tomorrow is the last Reading Day of the year.
The library has closed for check out. With your approval, children may bring books from home that they would like to read independently or with others. It would be helpful to have their name on the inside cover. If children have one of their favorite books to share, they may have the opportunity to read it to the class or share why it is their favorite book. Tomorrow our class will be completing the end of year MAPs assessment for Reading.
Remember...
I have seen a marked improvement in reading performance based on the assessments we've already done: Assessment Day- PALs reading SRI- Scholastic Reading Inventory I believe in every single one of my students and want them to do their very best. To do this, I hope they eat a good breakfast and are well rested for this assessment. I wanted to let you know that the kids did a great job today! I was so proud of them! It is wonderful to see how much they've grown since the beginning of the year. They were also very respectful to each other and behaved well during the assessments.
Thank you for supporting your children at home by establishing expectations for daily reading practice and encouraging their effort . The more they read, the more they grow and the more confident they become. The end of the year is fast approaching, but we have more assessments to come. Please hold these standards high as we wrap up the year so we can achieve our best and finish up strong! Today the children voted to bring a stuffed animal to school because we've earned 15 class STARS!
So tomorrow the kids can bring a small stuffed animal. Take a moment to review the following expectations with your child:
Thanks for your support! The 1st grade music program is tonight! We are excited to share it with you. It will be interactive so bring your smartphone! Students need to be here at 6:15 pm.
