The October Stellar Newsletter went home today with the youngest or only child in the family. It is also available on the school website at
www.stellar.adams12.org/newsletter If you wish to receive a paper copy of the monthly school newsletter, you must complete and return the request form on the 2nd page of the newsletter. Otherwise you may access it through the school website. This is an important homework assignment!
We created several topic lists in our Writer’s Notebooks. Throughout the year, we will use these lists to get ideas for writing. Bring it back on Monday!!! 1. Review, Correct, & Add to topic lists. Read through the topic lists that your child has made. Help them correct any names in their lists. Discuss each topic list and add any more ideas you identify for it. 2. Decorate the cover of your Writer’s Notebook. You may use pictures, photos, stickers, and coloring pencils. (Please NO markers because over the course of the year the ink rubs off onto our hands and writing projects!) Be creative! Include your favorite things… symbols that represent you, your family, your hobbies, etc. Then you will have a cover filled with things to give you ideas for writing! Many gracious thanks for taking the time to develop your child's topic lists for Writing time! Today Stellar experienced a malfunction with the attendance auto dialer system. Because of this, parents received a phone call that their student was absent from school.
A system upgrade of the district auto dialer system caused the malfunction. Until the system upgrade is complete, Stellar will call parents directly if they are absent and will not use the auto dialer for this purpose. We apologize for the confusion and concern this erroneous phone call caused. Thank you for your understanding. Baggie Books begin today!
Your child will take home their Baggie Book Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. Their book should not be difficult. We have discussed it and read it in class. Please see the yellow card inside their bag for guidelines and support. Your child should read aloud at least 2 times OR as many times as it take for them to read smoothly with no errors. There is also a pink bookmark with reading strategies. Have them to refer it when they get stuck on a word. Not all words can be decoded by "sound it out". Your child has been taught many strategies for figuring out words so encourage them to use multiple strategies. Check basic comprehension by asking them to identify the Who?, What?, Where?, When? of the book. They should also be able to tell you an opinion and identify the main idea through a summary statement. Don't forget to sign the log when you're done Come out to Stellar's Galaxy of Learning night this Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm (Sept 13).

Imagine how much we could accomplish if EVERYONE was getting on IXL! Consider IXL part of your math homework. Use it for 10 minutes each night to practice the math concepts we're working on in class. Focus on the skills below. A.1 A.2 A.3 A.4 A.5 A.6 A.7 C.1 M.1 M.4 P.1 P.2 P.3 Q.1 Q.2 Q.4 Q.5 Get involved. Be informed. Make a difference.
Tomorrow night is the 1st PTO meeting of the school year. They meet in the library from 6:30-7:30. Bring your ideas and positive energy. The PTO meets the first Tuesday of every month. I hope to see you there! Today I sent home a letter about IXL, an online math practice tool. Your child's username and password were written on the form. Your children are encouraged to use IXL for math homework with the expectation to do it for 10 minutes a night, excluding weekends. Of course, if they want to do it on the weekends, that's OK too!
Your child's username on the form will say something like bsmith@stellar This is used if you access IXL.com directly. However, if you get there using the link on this website you won't need the @stellar part. You may access IXL through a link found on the Online Resources page of this website. The skills available on IXL are quite extensive so I try to communicate about what we have studied to make the choices easier and more meaningful. The following skills would be best at this time: A.1 A.2 A.3 A.4 A.5 A.6 A.7 C.1 M.1 M.4 P.1 P.2 P.3 Q.1 Q.2 Q.4 Q.5 Thank you for supporting/encouraging math practice at home! |
